Rohu (Labeo rohita) Natural killer enhancing factor B cDNA clone in expression system for recombinant protein-polyclonal antibody-ELISA based assay

Background:
Natural killer enhancing factor (NKEF) of peroxiredoxin family is an important innate immune molecule with having antioxidant activity. Although this gene has already been studied in a few fish species, it is yet to be identified and functionally characterized in Indian major carps. Currently there is no such product available in India or world-wide from Indian major carps like rohu, either for its estimation in blood by ELISA or use of this protein as broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent. In the present findings, rohu NKEF-B recombinant protein was produced and ELISA assay system was developed its level in serum of fish during stress conditions Technology Details:
Rohu NKEF-B was found to be having lytic property against both Gram positive and negative bacteria. It’s presence in serum at low level could be easily detected by standardized ELISA using this produced polyclonal antibody and the recombinant protein generated in this technology. With an era of increasing antimicrobial resistance pattern to conventional synthetic antibiotics, this fish recombinant protein could be a potential alternative to antibiotics.
